Corbyn's first Pinewood Derby

A couple weeks ago, Corbyn participated in his first ever pinewood derby. He was SO excited when his den leaders passed out the cars that he came home and hammered in the wheels right away - Aaaaa! I told him we needed to cut the car, sand it, and paint it before we could do that, so we got the wheels out and Corbyn designed his car. He knew exactly what he wanted and Jason cut it according to Corbyn's design. Corbyn was VERY excited to paint it and wanted it to be the primary colors. He was very particular about how he wanted it to look, so I did not do it for him. He was very pleased with his car.

The night of the derby, I was so nervous for Corbyn and hoped that he would be happy no matter what place he came in. Well, his first round up, he came in third and I fully expected to see some disappointment in his face . . . but to my surprise, he jumped up and cheered when his car crossed the finish line - it was the cutest thing!! He had such a ball all night and even though he didn't place overall, he had 1 second place and 1 first place finish. I was so pleased that he was so happy!!

After we got home from the derby, Corbyn said that he wanted to paint his car again . . . why would he want to do that?! Well, he decided he wanted an Army car, so this is what he did - I think it's GREAT!!!

Time to clean out the pantry!!

After three years of living here, I decided it was time to clean out the pantry - WOW! What a difference. It was a big project, but a major payoff!! Here's some pictures of the Before, During, and After . . . I LOVE the new pantry!!!

Memorial Day

We were going to go to St. George for Memorial Day, but decided not to at the last minute. Instead, we went to Garland, Portage, and Sandy to visit my Grandparent's graves and my dad's grave. It was a lot of fun to see everyone!

(Gibbs Family Reunion in Garland)

We spent the evening at my mom's house with my siblings and their kids. We ate and played, then all went to my dad's grave together.

This is my oldest brother, Jared, and he is wearing my dad's favorite apron. I always remember my dad wearing that apron and fixing us some great barbeque! It was fun to see Jared look so much like my dad!

We love our teachers!!

This is a picture of what I got the kids' teachers and bus drivers this year and yes, I am really cheesy.

Cheese Grater: "I couldn't have asked for a "Grater" teacher! Thanks for everything.
Measuring Tape: "Thanks for 'measuring' up to be the best teacher ever!"
Spreader: "Thanks for 'spreading' so much knowledge to our class. You have been AMAZING!"
100 Grand: "You're worth '100 Grand' thanks for being such a great bus driver!"

The kids LOVED their teachers this year and there bus driver was really good for Corbyn and Brianna! Hopefully they will always know how much they are appreciated.

Who's Got Talent?

Kelsea and Corbyn both performed at their schools at the end of the year. Corbyn was selected as one of only two Second Graders to perform in the school's talent show and he played and sang "Two Dollar Bill" on the Guitar. Kelsea performed in her school orchestra on the violin and did a VERY good job. (She just started playing the violin in January and has progressed really fast!)

Heartfelt Respect

We were outside doing the yard tonight and my next door neighbor came up to me to tell me about a very touching experience he had involving Corbyn. About a month ago, he was outside doing his yard when he saw Corbyn, in full Cub Scout uniform, riding his bike home from Scouts. One of the other neighbors had their American Flag up and my neighbor said that when Corbyn came upon it, he stopped his bike, got off, did the Cub Scout flag salute, then just stood there and stared at the flag. How sweet is that? My neighbor was a little choked up when he told me the story and I must say, I had the same reaction as I listened to it. I'm so grateful that Corbyn has such heartfelt respect for the American Flag and and what it stands for. I am also SO grateful to live in America and having the freedoms we enjoy every day!!!!!
